Drug programs can help offset prescription expenses
Last year, the Senate Committee on Aging released a report indicating many seniors over-spend on medications because they are unaware of programs that can help defray the costs. According to the report, seniors spend an average of $655 a year on prescription medications.
Many pharmaceutical companies provide free medications to seniors who have difficulty paying for the cost of their prescribed medications. Although participating companies may have differing critieria for seniors to be approved for free medications, all require the involvement of a physician. Most ask that seniors provide information about financial status.
